Italian Tour 2010

AC Perugia 10 : 10 Wild Geese

Despite such a poor run in the league, the Wild Geese always seem to play well in the big games outside of Dublin, especially the games in Europe. In the Bambagioni Stadium last night, at high altitude, the Geese produced an outstanding display of attacking football against a strong AC Perugia team playing in front of their own fans. Manager Mark Cullivan was absent, apparently on a scouting tour in Africa, and assistant manager Pat Fitzsimons took his place. Fitzy has always believed in attacking football and the players relieved themselves of their domestic poor form and attacked the Perugia goals without mercy. The Geese squad was lacking all their normal defenders - this included Neil Murray who was unable to go to Italy due to the strike in the Passport Office. The game ended ten goals a piece, which was a fair result, and even the local fans seem to have appreciated the way the fantasy football which the Geese tried to play.
